COCK & BULL PUB Marian CD release show: Awestruck/Kristopher James/Superband Bradenton’s Marian began creating its floaty, jazz-fusion/indie rock tunes back in September 2006 and claim that “hearing it with your own ears is the only way to fully understand the beauty of their melodic compositions.” Many of their songs are instrumental and the ones that aren’t contain very limited vocals, perfect in-the-background-while-I’m-drinkin’ tunes. They will be releasing their music upon the world in compact disc form this Friday alongside Awestruck, Kristopher James and Superband. The show is $8 for age 18-20 and $5 for 21 and up. Superband’s Sam Robertson, featured on our Suncoast Summer Jam Sampler, almost made the cut: She’s 17. —Tim Sukits

TUESDAY, May 26
ACE’S Guys Night w/DJ Kinz & Vicca
CROWBAR The Juan Maclean/The Field His second full-length effort as The Juan Maclean, The Future Will Come, finds electro music artist John Maclean exploring new territory, adding vocals to music that was previously instrumental, inviting a roster of likeminded artists into the studio to write and record with him — Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel of Holy Ghost!, drummer Jerry Fuchs, and LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang, who figures most prominently with her girlish vocals — and then taking his group on the road to bring their house-hoppin’ beats and funky disco grooves to the clubs. Also on the bill is another one-man electro band who comes all the way from Sweden to tour with Maclean: The Field, also known as Axel Willner, who makes an art of looping and sampling (and re-sampling) to the point of sound anonymity, his songs stripped-down and set against simple pounding beats. —LP

  1. Richard Burton Says:

Nice to see some of the regular gigs listed, but one that you missed is the Paul Duffy group, both on Tuesdays, which is straight ahead jazz, and on Thursdays which is R&B. The R&B group has Mark Serio on Guitar, Bert Englesman on Bass, and Sandy Grecco on Bass. Those names might not be spelled correctly…..
