2009 Drinking Guide: The Rendezvous Lounge

June 22nd, 2009 by Cooper Levey-Baker in News

THE RENDEZVOUS LOUNGE
The Basics: 1570 N. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, 953-6970 [map it]
Signature drink(s): Shark bite or green algae
Most friendliest bartender(s): John (T-shirt slogan: “Make cocktails not war”)

When frequent 941 commenter and drinking companion JP professed amazement at the sight of Busch — an underage-house-party brew if ever there was one — on tap, bartender John laughed: “Welcome to The Rendezvous Lounge.” If the Vous has one calling card, it’s a total lack of pretension, even if the bar’s environs feel quite comfy. The copper bar top is a great place to lean, and boiled peanuts are just a friendly request away. The Vous also offers your standard bar stuff: karaoke, strobe lights, a NASCAR pinball machine, even one of those plush-toy-grabbing claw machines. After pouring my buddy’s Busch, John whipped up a couple house specialties, two sublimely sour concotions: the shark bite and a green algae. JP, his wife and I clinked glasses, and soaked in the Vous. (Bonus: the attached package store, which lets you pick up a bottle of Hennessy on your way out the door.)
