JANNUS LANDING Peter Murphy Wonder if he still likes being known as the Godfather of Goth? Dunno, but the smart money says he doesn’t rise from coffins onstage anymore. Murphy, the former frontman for Bauhaus, now 51, lists New York and Turkey as his home bases, and you can hear a bit of world music creeping into his more recent stuff. But his deep, dramatic voice and penchant for synthesizers still imbue his sound with a goth flavor. —Eric Snider

NEW WORLD BREWERY Cory Branan/Joey Cape/Jon Snodgrass Branan, singer/songwriter/longtime Lucero collaborator, and Drag the River’s Snodgrass tour together to play and pimp a forthcoming collaborative split LP, Cory Branan and Jon Snodgrass, which features new original songs by both, performed by both along with a few covers; the artists share a warm, acoustic-driven sound with some pleasant country twang. Lagwagon frontman Cape joins them and does the solo thing in honor of his new album, Bridge. —Leilani Polk

FORD AMPHITHEATRE Toby Keith w/Trace Adkins With such enlightening lyrics as “And you’ll be sorry that you messed with/ The U.S. of A./ ‘Cause we’ll put a boot in your ass/ It’s the American way,” country music star Toby Keith became a household name. His 2002 response to 9/11, “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” contends for the most juvenile piece of songwriting to ever make it to the top of the country charts (right up there with “Achy Breaky Heart”). —LP

THE RITZ YBOR Matt Hires/Alexander and the Grapes/Scott Harrell Tampa singer-songwriter Matt Hires produces laid-back yet potent acoustic pop in the vein of Jack Johnson and his pipes have been likened to those of Counting Crows’ frontman Adam Duritz. (Hires has a sweeter, sunnier tone, though he can turn on the melancholy longing at will.) Last year, Hires snagged a major label record deal with Atlantic — the rep contacted him via MySpace, no less — and is now on his first-ever national tour in support of the four-song Live from the Hotel Cafe EP he released via the label last October. His songs have landed on Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, he’s opened for artists ranging from Dave Matthews Band to John Mayer (on his second “Mayercraft Carrier” music cruise), and headlined a solo acoustic showcase at SXSW this past March. Hires’ introspective balladry feels honest and completely natural, and I’m inclined to believe that he’s earned his current success — and a headlining gig at the not-small Ritz in Ybor this Friday night — by having genuine talent. —LP

FORD AMPHITHEATRE Kid Rock/Lynyrd Skynyrd w/Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights Kid Rock took nü-metal to a whole new level of redneck, his trailer-park charm and hook-writing skills earning him millions. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s classic Southern-fried rock ’n’ roll is where all the redneckin’ began. The sole original member of the current lineup, rhythm guitarist Gary Rossington, carries on with Ronnie’s younger brother Johnny Van Zant as frontman. They apparently still close every show with “Freebird.” Thank God. —LP

TROPICANA FIELD Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo When the saucy siren Benatar sneered and strutted across the screen in those ’80s videos for “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” “Fire and Ice,” “Love Is a Battlefield,” “Sex as a Weapon” et al, her husband Neil Giraldo was always by her side, working that guitar. A couple of decades later, they’re still together, now as a co-bill, and will be entertaining folks after the Rays game. Not bad, as family businesses go. —ES

MAHAFFEY THEATER Il Divo The members of this popera vocal quartet hail from Spain, Switzerland, France and the U.S. The group has gotten pretty popular after only five years of putting out renditions of songs like “Nights in White Satin” and “Unbreak My Heart.” Their success is owed to music mogul and Idol asshole Simon Cowell, who put the group together to create “a new appreciation for lyrical voices and classical music.” —LP
