The Scenestress takes “Snapshots” at Sarasota’s Crêpes Suzette

picking up where we left off yesterday….

FRIDAY, JUNE 19, 10:30 P.M. — SNAPSHOTS, CRÊPES SUZETTE, SARASOTA

Though it’s dark out now, the evening still feels steamy and the courtyard of the restaurant-by-day on Lemon and Main is packed. I find many friends hanging outside (smokers, we are) and get the scoop on the party: Most have just arrived, opening band Attached Hands is wrapping up their set, and it’s just as hot inside.

Stepping through the doorway, “illustrator/provocateur” — and, full disclosure, close friend — Adrienne Benitez and the pop-inspired painting she is working on offer a warm welcome to the party. I amble past the crowded bar and pastry counter to check out the photo exhibit in a pink-walled room. Photogs Brian Braun and Tara Tomlinson specialize in portraits of angel-faced punk-rock girls, including one of promoter Joanna Coblentz, who happens to be in the room when I wander in. I exchange bisous with Miss Coblentz and chat about her upcoming summer shows. Tonight she is rocking a full-length dark-chocolate gown to compliment her dark locks (with signature chunky highlights) and long, dark nails.

Also looking good tonight: hipster girls like the twiggy blonde in a black bustier and skinny jeans, and her friend in a flowered summer smock, neckerchief and trilby hat perched on the crown of her pixie-cut. Men are sporting pegged jeans and cuffed tees (another concession to the heat), emphasizing that the theme tonight is less is more.

The final destination in the labyrinthine eatery is a dark back room where the bands play, and in there it’s freezing. Despite the comfy climate, most are braving the heat in the main room and I am no exception, joining those crushing at the bar. MeteorEyes plays next to a packed house and with that, I’m out.
