2009 Drinking Guide: Hoosier Bar & Grill

HOOSIER BAR & GRILL
The Basics: 748 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, 966-1251 [map it]
Signature Drink(s): Duck fart
Most friendliest bartender(s): Gen and Chris

The Hoosier Bar will be celebrating its 50th anniversary later this year and has called itself “biker-friendly” since the very beginning. The original roadhouse saloon opened in 1960 just before U.S. 41 was converted to four lanes. In 2003, Wal-Mart kicked them out and owners Doug and Theresa (a Hoosier) decided to rebuild their bar across the Trail with a similar setup and atmosphere, but with twice the space. They kept the same big red neon arrow sign. 7-8 p.m. is always Power Hour with $1.50 Bud and Bud Light bottles. Saturday is ladies night with Mr. DJ and a Victoria’s Secret raffle, and any band or soloist is invited to sign up for the open jam on Tuesdays. You can get some exercise at the ol’ Hoosier, too: Sign a waiver and you can do whatever you please on the extra-tall stripper pole.
