July 4th, 2009 by Tim Sukits in Food and Drink, News, Sarasota-Manatee

BC’S RECOVERY ROOM
The Basics: 2119 Siesta Drive, Sarasota, 364-8653 or bcrecoveryroom.com [map it]
Signature Drink(s): Narragansett tall boys
Most friendliest bartender(s): Joey Bear or Katieuska (means machine gun in Russian)

BC’s is a neighborhood bar that occupies a long, narrow space in the strip across from Southgate Mall. 18 TVs, including two 54” flat screens behind the bar, make it an excellent place to catch a game. The big schtick is all about live music though. The Recovery Room holds open jams almost every night and encourages any and all performers to come get some time in the spotlight. You can play solo, join in the jam or just sing a little ditty if you want – BC is pretty open to whatever. He takes pride in having experienced bartenders that remember drinks and names. A lot of local musicians can often be found sipping beers and playing on the free tournament size shuffle board table (the only in town according to BC). The bar got its medical theme from his wife, who ran the open heart intensive care unit at Sarasota Memorial. But the only thing getting nursed at this pub are hangovers.
