I support the local music community and love electronic music more than you all know. Just because the username says yourmom doesn’t mean I’m some old bitty who wants the noise turned down.

Its also good to know that a few choice comments can stir up the self-righteousness in everyone.

And it is not my wish that the festival does not succeed, I am just looking at it from a practical numbers end. Gather up all the youth in Sarasota in the summer that want to come out and support electronic music and in my mind, you have enough for one good-size party, not lots of them.

But who knows? Maybe these DJs and their velveeta brethren have throngs of worshipers coming from all over the state.

We will just have to see.

No matter what happens with the Fest, the most important thing to get out of this is to SUPPORT YOUR LOCALS. They are the ones who will be keeping the scene going every week after this is over.

Maybe next year think about branching out to different sounds. Create a niche for Sarasota that differentiates itself from whole Miami-centric sound. You can hear ‘electro’/breaks/trance anywhere. What about dubstep or deep house or detroit techno?

The Westside can make moves. The fact that this event is happening is testament to that. Good luck.

Yourmom, if you read the story you will note that this is an attempt to change the lack of young people and the lack of festivals in the summer in this town. We need sustainable year-round businesses and a culture that supports the young people who work at them. If we just complain about what we don’t have instead of fighting for what we should have, then we will never see the potential of Sarasota. Be active, support the scene, and have fun at the party.

for as much complaining as well all do about sarasota being “so damn boring,” i say give Vinyl a chance. go out and support it. if we show local businesses and government that this is worth it then we will hopefully attract more events.

I’m interested to see how this goes down. There aren’t enough people total in Sarasota for a festival in the summer, much less an electronic one, half of which the acts are total cheese, thats geared towards young people, which there is clearly NOT a lot of in this town, especially during summer.

I am about to leave town – most of my friends are out of town too and its so damn boring.

We should focus on having one or two good electronic parties at once, so that a REAL festival crowd has the potential to gather.

Anyway, lets see if an actual ‘festival’ occurs or if its a smattering of parties that are sparsely populated.
