— “One day after police began investigating an officer who kicked a handcuffed man at the jail, city officials went to the man’s home and offered him $400 if he would sign a waiver not to sue. Juan G. Perez signed on Saturday; the city cut the check on Wednesday. And on Thursday, police Sgt. Ken Castro — who also is conducting a criminal investigation of the officer — tried to speed things up when he hand-delivered the check to Perez and drove him to the bank to cash it.”

— Lockheed Martin shows the remarkable efficiency of the private sector: “Residents in Tallevast will have to live with contaminated ground water for almost 50 years, according to a revised cleanup plan submitted to the state.”
