BEST ONGOING USE OF A 3RD BASS SONG IN A POLITICAL CHAT SHOW
Clout 941’s “Weasel of the Week”

We like Ron Filipkowski, and we really dig Clout 941, the weekly Sarasota political chat show he hosts and puts up on YouTube. Filipkowski comes at the headlines from a conservative, Republican perspective, but he is always generous and open-minded in who he’ll invite on, and he always interviews his guests with patience and reason. In short: He’s no Glenn Beck. But aside from the fact that Filipkowski’s show is one of the few venues to regularly highlight a discussion of Sarasota politics, Clout 941 is also worth watching for its music programming. From the theme song’s Dirty South strings and beats to back-from-commercial snippets courtesy Radiohead, Filipkowski avoids the dreary music-by-numbers most local TV shows use. And nowhere is Filipkowski’s pop flair more on display than during his weekly “Weasel of the Week” segment. The intro features a cartoon weasel popping up and down to the rhythm of legendary rap group 3rd Bass’ “Pop Goes the Weasel.” Keep bangin’, Ron. Keep bangin’.
