RUTH ECHERD HALL Bonnie Raitt Though she hasn’t dropped a new LP since 2005, veteran slide guitar-slinging blues songstress Bonnie Raitt has enough material in her repertoire to make any fan happy. In the 1970s, Raitt hit the scene with bluesy roots that synthesized rock, folk and country music influences, and put out a string of albums that were well-regarded by critics but virtually ignored by everyone else. She went through various ups and downs in her life and career until she finally hit her commercial peak when she took an AC blues-pop turn and released her multiple Grammy-winning 1989 album, Nick of Time. I have much love and respect for the fiery-haired Raitt. While she may not write all her own music, she sure knows how to play it and with easy slide-driven licks to go with her warm rusty vocals. She just finished a co-headlining coast-to-coast summer tour with Taj Mahal, and this show makes up for her previously cancelled March 15 date. —Leilani Polk
SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE Grateful Dead Night w/Uncle John’s Band
THE STATE THEATRE The Atticus Tour w/Finch/Bless the Fall/Drop Dead Gorgeous/Vanna/Lets Get It Originally formed in 1999, Finch is a post-hardcore five-piece from Temecula, Calif., that took an “indefinite hiatus” in ’05 after releasing two albums, reformed in ’07 and went on a reunion tour across America and the U.K., and put out a self-titled EP in ’08. Finch is currently working on album three and have posted the first single on their Myspace page, “Hail the Fire,” a heavy propulsive number with pounding and roiling drumbeats, dual vocals, one singing the main verses in compelling or pained wails, the other shouting or shrieking backing responses, and guitars riffing and raging to the song’s climactic and abrupt end. —LP

SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE 30th Annual Freaker’s Ball Magical Mythical Tour w/The Legendary JCs/Rev. Billy C Wirtz For its 30th Halloween throwdown, Skipper’s has organized an evening of guaranteed good times. The Legendary JC’s bring funky energy and a thoroughly sweaty soul revue to the mix; country-blues artist Rev. Billy C. Wirtz offers his deep-voiced sardonic wit. Dress up as your idol, real or imagined; this year’s theme is “myths and legends,” and the winner of the costume contest gets a schweet cash prize. —LP
THE STATE THEATRE Revolting Cocks/Jim Rose Circus/Blownload/Left Spine Down Purveyors of down-and-dirty industrial dance music since 1983, Revolting Cocks are passing the torch of their music, at least temporarily. Three musicians hand-picked by RevCo frontman Al Jourgensen — singer Josh Bradford, guitarist Sin Quirin and keyboardist/electronics specialist Clayton Worbeck — helped record RevCo’s fifth and latest album, Sex-O Olympic-O (out March 3). Then he sent them on the road for the current “LubricaTour” to play the songs live, with Bradford, Quirin and Worbeck joined by drummer Aaron Rossi and bassist Murv, and “special guest” appearances by Jourgensen in select cities. No telling if he’ll show at the Bay area stop. —LP

You probably know them from their funky rock ditty, “Time Loves a Hero” or the bouncy “Sailin’ Shoes.” —LP

CROWBAR Modern Skirts w/The Old Ceremony Athens quartet Modern Skirts have built up a solid local following with their appealingly quirky alt-pop. Gentle vocals are set against swaying melodies, synthesizer flourishes give it a subtle dance music feel akin to Stereolab, and lyrics range from clear to cryptic, like the main refrain of “Soft Pedal” off their new self-released album, All of Us in Our Night: “I can’t shut off this stereo / You got on top and we both got off again / Give me a knife and a merry-go-round / You got on top and we both got off again.” —LP
