Like a bag full of sugary goodies this Halloween weekend is upon us. I have decided to provide you slathering ghouls with a bag full of snacks myself. This week I give you enough creepy goodness that you may choke on it, or at least have a sore tummy in the morning:
1. If you’re in the mood for some old-school spooky films to get you in that Halloween spirit, Classic Cinema Online has gathered together hundreds of films. This week it’s classic spooky, scary, and supernatural movies in honor of Halloween’s approach. Even if you’re somewhere where you can’t sit down and watch a film from yesteryear, browsing the awesome movie posters is well worth the price of free.
2. Next up we pay a visit to a troubled woman in 100 Feet, which I watched streaming from Netflix. After killing her abusive cop husband Mike, Marnie (Famke Janssen) returns to New York to serve the remainder of her manslaughter sentence under house arrest. But Mike’s vengeful ghost isn’t done taunting her in this gripping supernatural thriller. Mike’s ex-partner keeps close tabs on Marnie, who must wear an ankle bracelet that doesn’t allow her to escape — let alone move past a 100-foot radius. This film is an openly aggressive film that does well to keep your pulse pounding all the way up to the flatline ending. I enjoyed the idea behind the story and for the most part felt as though it was well portrayed.
3. I was on location (I like the sound of that) for the “Thrill the World – SRQ 2009″ event this past weekend. I was rather shocked and very bummed when only 50 of the undead turned up for such a great event. Their goal next year is 1,000, and I seriously hope more than 50 deadites get behind this great event. You can watch some video of the event here.
To wrap up my Halloween gift bag I give you zombie-geek overload. Nothing is more enjoyable then a mass of folks dressing up like the undead and acting out their favorite movie, right? So, the idea of 2000 zombie fans dressed up and invading the town where Dawn of the Dead was filmed makes me giddy like a schoolgirl. The Wall Street Journal has some truly amazing pictures from the Monroeville, Penn., Zombiefest earlier this month, held in the very same mall where George Romero’s original film was shot. Let the brain eating commence and enjoy your freakish Halloween… Beeeeer-ains!
