PALLADIUM THEATER Dr. John & The Lower 911 w/Bill “The Sauce Boss” Wharton Longtime New Orleans musician Dr. John plays blues-, boogie- and R&B- saturated rock, his key-playing and coarse, deep swamp drawling vocals backed by slinky funkin’ beats and grooves made for moving. Much of his songwriting focuses on his home, including 2008’s City That Care Forgot, about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the years of neglect and social turmoil that have followed. Dr. John is joined by his full band, the Lower 911. Wharton cooks up his own brand of spicy blues to kicks things off. —Leilani Polk
SHARKY’S David Moore

SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE Tornado Rider/Uncle John’s Band Fronted by an electric cello player, Tornado Rider is a high-energy punk and roots rock trio with members who wear outrageous costumes and entertain with wild stage antics. The band plays a 90-minute set in the middle of opening and closing sets by the Dead tributeers. —LP

RUTH ECKERD HALL Joe Bonamassa He got his first guitar at 5, was playing Stevie Ray Vaughn by 7, and now at 32, blues-rocking guitarist Joe Bonamassa still has chops to spare. He’s produced eight solo albums since 2002, his latest, The Ballad of John Henry, out in February and followed by a DVD release, Joe Bonamassa Live From the Royal Albert Hall, in October. —LP
SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE Bernard Allison/Kenny Neal This double-header blues bill features two respected artists in the field. Midwesterner Bernard Allison was initiated into music by his dad, legendary Chicago blues guitarist Luther Allison; Bernard produces soulful blues with wah-wah guitar and a heavy funk-rockin’ rhythm section. Kenny Neal is also a blues guitarist with a famed father — harmonica great Raful Neal — but his licks and riffs are dredged from the easy shaking sounds of his Louisiana home. —LP

CROWBAR Big D & The Kids Table w/IllScarlett Third-wave Boston ska outfit Big D & the Kids Table is led by David McWane, who sings in a nasally tone, runs his lyrics together in a sped-up conversational style, or performs an appealing sort of white-boy rap. The seven-piece has an infectious, buoyant, horn-infused sound and their sixth album Fluent in Stroll — produced by Joe Gittleman of Mighty Mighty Bosstones — is self-described as “stroll” music, a mix of double-dutch, ska, reggae, and soul. —LP
THE GATOR CLUB All-Stars
LEBARGE BC Hathaway
O’LEARY’S Willie BeThere
PASTIMES The Mahones/The Popes
SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE Gumbo Boogie CD Release

MONDAY, Nov. 9
AMERICAN LEGION POST 312 The Ricky & Franky Rockin’ Oldies Show
THE GATOR CLUB Identity Krisis
THE STATE THEATRE Municipal Waste/Goatwhore/Phobia/Cauldron Richmond, Va.’s Municipal Waste has a nasty name to go with their punk-poisoned thrash metal, fast and hard guitars and drums paired with vocals shouted in speedy unintelligible streams or staccato bursts. —LP

IVORY Jazz-2-Blue Tuesdays
LEBARGE Rich McKee
PASTIMES Soap Dance Party
SKIPPER’S SMOKEHOUSE Dan Bern/Shaun Hopper
THE STATE THEATRE Joshua Radin/The Watkins Twins/The Kin Radin has that delicate high vocal tone you find more and more frequently in acoustic indie rock, pretty and poignant and soulful. His music has been all over TV (several songs appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs and One Tree Hill, among many others), film (Last Kiss, Catch and Release), and even ads for General Electric and Hilton. His 2008 album, Simple Times, debut at 34 on the Billboard 200. —LP

IVORY Hip-Hop Humpdays w/DJ Scotty B.
LEBARGE Dan Crawford
NEW WORLD BREWERY Miss Tess & the Bon Ton Parade Among the wellspring of neo-folk artists re-imagining the old-fashioned sound of early-era jazz and blues is Boston songstress/guitarist Miss Tess. The singer’s sultry rich vocals bring a late-night speakeasy feel to the Bon Ton Parade’s vibrant twang-tinged melodies, which are marked by the tasteful sax and clarinet playing of Alec Spiegelman, upright bass plucking of Ben Davis and the light drumming touch of Matt Meyer. Playful little ditties are interspersed with mournful love songs, like the title track off her new fifth album, Darling, Oh, Darling, about a woman who can’t convince her man that her love is true. “I know it’s hard but I’ve been trying, now I’ve gotta keep from crying, darling, oh, darling, darling,” she cries, the last “darling” drawn out in a gorgeous heartbroken sigh. —LP
