Vern Buchanan (like we found out last week) wants to escalate our involvement in Afghanistan, but he also doesn’t want President Obama making a decision without proper deliberation: “He should take his time and gather all the information he can,” he tells Jeremy Wallace at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. “I respect the fact that he’s taking his time.”

— And remember that blip from back in April about the Sarasota Democrats leading Republicans in the fundraising department? The Dems are still ahead in the race.

— “The Sarasota County Arts Council has taken another step in overhauling its image. On Thursday, Nov. 5, the Arts Council appointed Jim Shirley as executive director. He replaces Russ Crumley, who was hired last fall to lead the arts organization.”

— And from our WTF department: After six decades, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers starts looking for unexploded ordinance that may be scattered around Sarasota County.
