More media woes

December 8th, 2008 by Karen Shugart in News

In today’s depressing media news, Tribune has declared bankruptcy. The New York Times also reported Friday that another newspaper giant, McClatchy, is seeking buyers for The Miami Herald, one of its largest and most prestigious papers. McClatchy, of course, also owns The Charlotte Observer.

Never fear, however, when such great ideas — ahem — like this are put forth as an answer. Pasadena Now’s founder James Macpherson has experimented with staffing his Web site with overseas reporters who report on Pasadena happenings by watching city council meetings and whatnot online. A Los Angeles Times writer found such innovation hasn’t been a godsend.

Perhaps Macpherson should try content aggregation. That should help, right?
