Outer Banks: No plastic for you

That’s right. Plastic bags have been banned in the Outer Banks. Which is great news. Plastic bags are made from petroleum products — and we all know what humans will sacrifice for oil. They’re too expensive to recycle so they’re often dumped in the ocean and, let’s face it, we simply use too many of them. (How many do you have in your house right now?)
This could also be good news for Charlotte’s Neela bags. The women-owned company produces reusable bags that fold up for easy storage, are inexpensive … and cute, too.
Plastic bags will be banned in three Outer Banks counties under a pilot program approved 47-1 Wednesday by the N.C. Senate.
Starting in September, shoppers in Dare, Currituck and Hyde counties would take home their purchases in 100 percent recycled paper.
