WTH is Ahmadinejad talking about?

June 25th, 2009 by Rhiannon Bowman in News

President Obama can’t seem to win on the Iranian front.

The Right is ticked because he hasn’t bomb, bomb, bomb … bomb, bombed Iran yet. Meanwhile, Obama is doing his damnedest not to “meddle” — which is what those in-the-know about Iranian affairs say is the way to go. All the while, Iran’s protested president is telling Obama to stop meddling.

What in the hell is he talking about?

Could be he’s ill because the Obama administration has rescinded 4th of July invites to some Iranian diplomats. Fitting since the Iranian government is obviously anti-freedom-loving at the moment, which is — hello — what Independence Day is all about.

Here’s the problem, though: Ahmadinejad controls the media in his country. If he says Obama is meddling, that might be the only message Iranian citizens hear.

Which is exactly why the Iranian government is starting to confiscate cell phones, the only way many protesters are able to communicate with the outside world.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the declared winner in the disputed June 12 election, told President Obama to stop “interfering” in Iran’s affairs, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

“The question is, do you want to use this kind of literature to address Iran and create a dialogue?” Ahmadinejad said. “If this is your position, then there is nothing to talk about.”

Obama is walking a diplomatic tightrope in finding the right response to the crisis. Since taking office, the U.S. leader has sought rapprochement with Iran, but this week he said he was “appalled and outraged” by the post-election violence.

And, the fighting continues in the White House:

Because Huffington Post blogger, Nico Pitney — who is blogging his fingers off about the Iranian protests, was allowed to ask President Obama a question posed by Iranian protesters in a recent presser, the White House Press Corp. is all in a tizzy because their old-way-to-do-things rules were broken.
