A symposium on criminal justice is attracting some big names locally, and it’s free to the public. Sponsored by the Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights, the event addresses issues such as alternative sentencing, mandatory sentencing and sentencing disparities. Co-chairs are Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thelma Wyatt and John Walker, a former State Pardons and Paroles Board executive. Other participants include former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Larry Thompson; U.S. Rep. John Lewis; Fulton County district attorney Paul Howard, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, and Stephen Bright, director of the Southern Center for Human Rights. Free.
