$1,000 martini

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Martinis and diamonds. Two of a woman’s favorite words.

Get them both at The Capital Grille when you buy their $1,000 martini. The drink will come garnished with more than a cherry. With it, you will get a White Topaz and Diamond Caviar Rope Bracelet designed by acclaimed designer Stephen Lagos. You don’t have to feel guilty for spending one grand on a martini though — 100% of the profits from the lavish martini will benefit Share Our Strength, a non-profit leader in the flight to end childhood hunger in America.

The bracelet is touted as a “limited edition” item created exclusively for the restaurant and will only be available Nov. 24 - Jan.3.

But if you like the bracelet, don’t care about charity and/or don’t want to spend $1,000 for the bracelet, just hop on over to Nordstrom and pick up a similar bracelet for only $675. This Lagos bracelet is the same design as the Charity Martini one, but it just doesn’t have the two side diamonds…but it’s hardly noticeable!

If you want the $1,000 martini, go to The Capital Grille located at:
201 N Tryon St # 1000
Charlotte, NC 28202
(704) 348-1400

If you just want the bracelet without the booze, go to Nordstrom located at:
SouthPark Mall
4400 Sharon Road, Suite 500
Charlotte, NC 28211
(704) 442-6000

Pumpkin dip (low-fat!)

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

If you haven’t noticed, I’m a tad bit obsessed with pumpkin recipes. And if you are too, then today’s your lucky day, because I’ve got a delicious recipe for you! It’s low fat to boot.

At my friend’s Halloween party a few weeks ago, she served fresh-baked sugar cookies with a festive orange-colored pumpkin dip flecked with spices. A cookie dipped in the pumpkin goodness tasted like a creamy, fluffy pumpkin pie. Amazing. Try it for yourself with the recipe below.

I love how the dip is a lot easier to make than the pie version and it’ll satisfy a craving asap. Other dip-able foods to try with it are gingersnaps, graham crackers and apples.

Take the coffee pledge

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Did you know that coffee drinkers toss away 28 billion disposable coffee cups each year, cramming landfills with uncompostable trash?

You can do your part to help the environment by either bringing your own reusable travel mugs to coffee shops instead of getting a disposable cup each time, or taking the Good Earth Coffee “Brew at Home” pledge. The pledge is a commitment to brew more at home and to toss less.

Good Earth Premium Coffee will donate $1 to the Trust for Public Land if you take a pledge to brew your coffee at home! Take the pledge at their website.

Charlotte blog “Cheap & Free in Charlotte” has a post about this pledge as well.

How big of a turkey do I need?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

If you planning to roast your own turkey this Thanksgiving, Butterball.com offers a “Perfect Portion” calculator which will help you determine what size turkey you will need to feed your guests based on the number of adults and children you enter. The calculator can be found on Butterball’s website on the right-hand corner. Pretty nifty.

Sarah Palin gets pranked

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Two radio DJs from Montreal got Sarah Palin on the phone and pranked her by posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy. And she fell for it!

Palin’s people confirm that the call did occur. Read about it here.

Palin probably shot whoever screens her calls.

Turn that can into a beer stein

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

I am always one to complain about having cold hands from clutching onto a can of ice cold beer. This Can Grip could solve my problems. This little device clips onto any standard 12 oz. can of beer, soda, or whatever and gives your drink a stein-like quality. It also adds a touch of class. Oh, and koozies are nice too, but this is just neat!
