Greed is good?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Mark Cuban has been charged by the SEC for insider trading. In an effort to save $750,000, the brilliant billionaire has risked it all. Unlike Martha Stewart, who was criminally charged and faced a civil suit, Cuban has only been smacked with a civil suit. Sexism certainly operates at all levels of society. No, two wrongs don’t make a right, but in this climate, spoiled billionaires who break the law in order to save what amounts to pennies should pay the price if found guilty. That includes jail time. After all, they CAN afford it and usually rebound quite nicely. See Martha Stewart.

Treacherous Lieberman

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

The balls on this guy are enormous. Former Democratic VP candidate says screw the Democratic Party Presidential Nominee, campaigns against him, supports the opposition and still gets to keep one of the most powerful chairmanships in the Senate because it might look bad for Obama if he is removed. Look bad for Obama? How could Obama possibly look worse than Lieberman, who is clearly motivated by power and revenge? Oh, yeah, he’s black. I keep forgetting that point, which is why he’s being asked to do what no other president has done before him. To add insult to injury, Lieberman campaigned against Obama after Obama went to Connecticut to campaign on his behalf so that he could help the old fart keep his seat. A great stand-up guy. Exactly the type of person that we need overseeing Homeland Security.

Double standard

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Last week a school collapsed in Petionville, Haiti. Ninety people were killed and more than 150 were injured. The story was all over the place. Another school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti collapsed. Nine people were injured. There was no coverage. Why? Classism. Petionville houses the country’s wealthiest residents while Port-au-Prince houses its poorest. The media doles out coverage just like the government doles out aid — according to caste systems. I guess our concern for Haitians reflects that system since little to nothing has been said about the incident in Port-au-Prince.

Kanye Wack

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Kanye West has named himself the “voice of this generation.” I think he’s the official “ass” of this generation, always poppin’ off and crying me, me, me more than a voice coach. Bob Dylan — the voice of a generation; Donny Hathaway — the voice of a generation; Aretha Franklin — the voice of a generation; Crosby, Stills and Nash — the voice of a generation; Bruce Springsteen — the voice of a generation; Kanye West, a voice that needs to shut the hell up and dropout of popular culture.

Bury reality TV

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Who on earth watches Dancing with the Stars? We all have our secret shows, but come on Cloris Leachman? People gave McCain hell for being too old, but we get to watch this one drag herself across the floor. Double Standard alert and yikes! Let’s have a moment of silence for reality television. It is clearly dead and needs to be buried.

The day is here

Friday, November 7th, 2008

America has a black president. The day that most people thought they would never see is here. A man of bi-racial descent — an African-American in the truest sense of the word, will lead America for the next four years. It is a sobering moment, because we all know that the honeymoon will end and the real work will begin, but it sure feels nice.

No more election!

Friday, October 31st, 2008

I cannot wait for this presidential election to be over. I am officially tired of this race. No more attack ads. No more debates. No more duplicity. No more hypocrisy. No more “spin” on the word change. No more lunacy. No more extremism. No more of one of the candidates, both of whom are overexposed. No more stomping. No more promises. No more foolishness. No more long lines. For now.

Bad decisions

Friday, October 31st, 2008

What’s up with women taking up with violent people? Dating and marrying someone convicted of a violent crime? Are times that hard? That is a very bad decision, often with devastating consequences. Jennifer Hudson’s family was murdered. Who is at the center of it? The brother-in-law who was convicted of attempted murder and carjacking. Those are the qualities that we look for in a spouse? A father figure for a child, and a boy at that? A piss-poor decision that will have negative consequences for a lifetime.

Material Girl

Friday, October 17th, 2008

The queen of reinvention is getting divorced. Yes, Madonna aka the Maverick aka Madge is calling it quits with her hubby, Guy Ritchie. This isn’t surprising when you consider that a woman who is constantly reinventing herself would probably want or need to do so in a marriage. What is surprising is that she had no prenuptial agreement. Wow. There ain’t that much love in the world to part me from half a billion. Maybe she’s not the savvy businessperson that people describe her as. Maybe a prenuptial takes the romance out of marriage. Maybe the Material Girl forgot that she is living in a material world and should have protected her assets, children and herself.

Reinvention

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are divorcing. Are we surprised? The tabloids have been salivating over the tawdry details of this mess, stemming from the fallout of A-Rod’s marriage to his wife over his wandering eye, which landed squarely on Madonna. It’s no surprise that the icon most known for reinventing herself will be reinventing her personal life. Too bad she and Ritchie couldn’t sort this out before the adoption. Whatever happens, I’m sure Madonna will come out on top — as usual.
