Open Mic nights
July 22nd, 2008 by Jeff Hahne in Live ReviewsI was up at the Evening Muse last night for the “Find Your Muse” open mic night and feature performance by Gretel.
I had a brief conversation with organizer Eric-Scott Guthrie and noted, “You know, a lot of people probably assume you get talentless hacks you bring their guitar up and do what equates to bad karaoke over original songs. But there’s a lot of talent here - strong songwriters, good musicians. There’s also variety!”
From a 16-year-old singing original songs to a jazz quartet, from the seasoned vets like Ben Henry to others still looking for their own comfort level, open mic nights are a great way to see a variety of music for a cheap price - the Muse only charges $3.
Get out and support local, original music in all its forms!
