Edgewood Ave all over the map tonight

Funk and Soul DJs spin at one Edgewood bar, while a country-rock band twangs up another.

Watching the steady rejuvenation of Edgewood Avenue has been one of the more exciting (and welcome) transformations in Atlanta in the past few years. Constrained within the linear boundaries of historic brick buildings, but free from the obnoxious influx of chain restaurants and cafes, the neighborhood flourishes with a party atmosphere that hasn’t fully shaken off the more menacing memories of the abandoned storefronts it’s played host to. Tonight’s musical fare in two different spots along the sidewalk reflects the avenue’s up-and-coming diverse nature:

At 262 Edgewood, the former Harlem Bar has reopened as Spanish Harlem, sporting new renovations and a Latin-Caribbean menu. Tonight, and every Thursday, long-time Atlanta staple DJ Cozy Shawn and DJ OMG! spin an all vinyl set of latin, soul, and funk. 7-11pm.

Meanwhile under Pizzeria Vesuvius, at 327 Edgewood, The Music Room hosts San Francisco’s The Real Nasty, a country-rock trio playing alongside Virginia’s Bad Circus. Doors open at 8pm, $5 cover. (someone take notes: that may be the first time I’ve written anything about “country rock.” Shout out to all the two-steppin’ CL readers).
