Where shopping hurts my wallet

There goes my good Monday: Publix is buying out 49 Tampa Bay area Albertson’s stores!

I don’t know where your grocery loyalties lie, but this does not bode well for me.

After several months of trying out different grocery stores since I moved here, Albertson’s was an easy choice. In my humble opinion, for the quality of their meat and veggies, they seem to have the best prices. Now Publix, which I find to be fairly expensive, plans to buy out Albertson’s in September. What’s more: They’re buying locations that are already near various Publix stores. My local Albertson’s on 4th Street in St. Pete is across the street from a Publix.

Now, I’ll be forced to go to Sweetbay, who I am not at all happy with ever since the company allowed identity theives to steal over 4 million credit and debit card numbers. I had fun dealing with that little security breach when my bank unexpectedly canceled my debit and credit cards after Sweetbay notified them (but not me) that my information was stolen. All this, while I was on vacation.

Anybody else bothered by Publix’s plans?

I love Publix. I feel they have great overall quality meats, veggies, and their deli is awesome. While they are more expensive than some other chains, they have a lot of buy one get one free deals that helps to off set the prices. Personally, I hate Albertsons and only shop there when I absolutely have to.

I wouldn’t say I am happy Publix bought the chain because now Albertsons wont be around for devotees. I am sorry for your loss, Alex.

Personally, I don’t like Albertson’s because they are way over-priced on many items. Plus, in the few that I have visited during the past 5 yrs I didn’t like the lay-out of the stores and the customer service was lacking. I prefer Publix-they tend to have great customer service, and the Publix-brand foods I’ve tried have been of good quality

I don’t know how can someone pass a Publix to go shop at an Albertson’s! The quality of products, level of service, cleaness of the store’s is much much higher at Publix. Sure price is a little bit higher, but you got to look at the deals! Lots of buy one get one free’s and stuff like that! The store on 4th street on Northeast is one of the best store’s ever! Maybe you need to visit it a few more times and you won’t ever go back to another supermarket!
