More this weekend: Young Blood and Kibbee openings

If you’re not too busy gettin’ your underground art jam on at ARTLANTIS, there are two equally enticing (and air-conditioned) art-going options this Saturday: gallery openings at Young Blood and Kibbee Gallery.

The Blotter Show at Kibbee Gallery: Taking tips in everyday hilarity from Creative Loafing’s Blotter by Lauren Keating, this exhibition digs into Atlanta’s often silly crime scene with local artists’ visual interpretations of actual police stories that have previously been reported in Keating’s column. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a Sam Parker-style Ponce hooker getting arrested after pulling some ridiculous hood shit in the Taco Bell. Maybe wishful thinking. Either way, this show is likely to bring the giggles and be chock full of really good art by some of Atlanta’s finest. Participating artists include: Sam Parker, John Tindle, Mike Germon, Don Robson, Brandon Crawford, Preston Snyder, Baxter Crane, Ben Goldman, Bethany Collins, Jessica Scott Felder, Jim O’Donnell, Chris Walter and more.

Interior/Posterior at Young Blood Gallery: It’s ladies’ night at the North Highland gallery and boutique with this all-chick exhibition. Megan Kimber, Merrilee Challis, Daisy Winfrey, Chrystal Chan, Jennifer Davis and Lesley Reppeteaux are coming together to unite their individual styles and media for the common purpose of exploring and explaining the female figure. But don’t anticipate a painfully sweet, sappy selection of dreamy-gross chick art:

“People will be able to go to this show and feel like they have just watched a bunch of little tasty movies or read some kick ass short stories,” says artist Kimber.

Still, I advise attending this show after The Blotter Show; such mega exposure to the lady form just might be enough cleanse you of any lingering crime grime you got from Kibbee.
