Phil Gingrey on guns at healthcare town halls: Hey, why not?
August 17, 2009 at 11:27 pm by Thomas Wheatley in NewsU.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, appeared on Monday night’s episode of Hardball with Chris Matthews, a popular televised experiment in which a flaxen-haired jester yells questions at political guests. When asked why he thought a growing number of healthcare reform protesters were showing up to the politically charged events wearing firearms, Gingrey basically said, “They’re exercising their rights under the Second Amendment.” Yeah, that’s one way of putting it. (Galloway’s posted a rough transcript.)

I really don’t see what the big deal is. If you have a right to carry a firearm then what is the problem with excercising that right.

Simple, Liberals hate guns and would love to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

I dont even disagree with you Dale. I do hate guns and wish we had laws like they have in New York. I would love to see people with unlicensed guns get a mandatory of two years in prison. It would clean up Atlanta in a jiffy.

I think extra penalties for those who commit crimes with guns are appropriate.
I don’t hate inanimate objects. I hate the people who use them to hurt others.

In Georgia it is a criminal offense to carry a firearm to a public gathering, either concealed or openly displayed.

So, in Georgia the “right to carry a firearm” does not extend to bringing one to your next healthcare town hall.

If Gingrey and the rest of the numbnuts in the GA Legislature are all for it, then why can’t I bring an AR-15 into the Congressional gallery in D.C. or inside the state capitol? Pussies…

Several news outlets are now reporting the guy carrying the AR-15 part of a publicity stunt orchestrated by right-wing radio host Ernest Hancock.
Hancock is a vocal supporter of a Arizona Viper Militia — at least 10 members of which were pleaded guilty to weapons charges related to a plot to blow up Federal bldgs in the style of Timothy McVeigh.
To paraphrase Sarah Palin, Mr. Hancock is “pallin’ around with terrorists.”
And Rep. Gingrey has no problem with them.

Andisheh – Gingrey has no problem with the 2nd Amendment and the local laws. Come on, man, pretty weak trying to paint him endorsing those nuts.
Hancock is a nutter.
And Palin would be right about a person having terrorist pals. Again.
It was also a stunt. A successful one for whatever purpose the “stunters” had for orchestrating it.

I got a real kick out of MSNBC and their complete ass up about this situation. THere they were talking about all the racists with guns and it turns out the guy carrying the AR15 (the mean looking Army gun) was a black guy. Sweet!
