Atlanta mayor’s race recount says Reed’s the winner

Now we can officially call him ‘mayor-elect’

So now we can officially call him Mayor-elect Kasim Reed.

Fulton County election officials say a recount of votes in the Dec. 1 Atlanta mayoral election show Reed beat opponent Mary Norwood by 714 votes. Reed received 42,549 votes while Norwood received 41,835.

Election officials tell CL that Norwood picked up one vote in the City of Atlanta that’s within Fulton County. DeKalb County vote totals stayed the same.

Norwood yesterday formally requested another look at the votes. According to state law, a candidate who finished within one percentage point of his or her opponent has the right to ask for a recount. She’s expected to hold a press conference tonight.
