great place, after you shake off all the panhandling to get there.

  2. cliff bostock Says:

Have you sampled the new menu, foodieman?

  3. foodieman Says:

i have not sampled the new menu, but i have been there before. the owners are very friendly.

edgewood ave is really becoming an area for foodies.

    Cliff,

I have had the new menu and while it’s serviceable, I wasn’t exactly all that taken with it, as compared to the old menu—ESPECIALLY compared to the old menu.

But down to specifics, the pimento burger was tasty and you can actually taste the pimento cheese. The chicken sliders, though not put upon by my friends, were likened to Krystal chiks. The dutch fries (didn’t see them up above) were disappointing. Maybe that’s why they aren’t listed. The lamb pie had good braised flavor, but wasn’t sure about the puff pastry topping. Seemed like an afterthought.

Really, objectively it’s not bad. I’m just a bit heartbroken when comparing it to the previous menu so relative to that, I’m kind of bummed out.

  5. Kali Says:

Huh. It looks like they removed their “poutine” from the menu as well.

  6. JSF3000 Says:

No poutine? They probably couldn’t get good cheese curds.

  7. Ivan Says:

Strangely enough, the never did use cheese curds on their poutine. Well, they did every once in a while, but when we asked about it, we were told that people didn’t seem to like the curds as much as the other cheese.

No matter. The new menu has “Dutch fries,” with blue cheese, scallions, & bacon. They were ok, but didn’t seem to live up to the billing. They might have tasted better if everything was heated together rather than seemingly thrown on a plate as individual components.

  8. Kali Says:

I am not surprised that no one liked the cheese curds. They are a bit odd.

When that was on the menu, the fiance and I wanted to go because he wanted to try the poutine, but we just never got around to it. In any case, the Dutch fries sound full of potential goodness.

I once lived with someone from Wisconsin who was addicted to cheese curds. They are definitely an acquired taste.

  10. JSF3000 Says:

Cliff, I once dated someone from Wisconsin and she could not get enough of them. They’re just unaged cheese, what’s weird about that? When they’re nice and fresh and squeaky, their delicious!

But I may be biased, cheese is my favorite food group.
