Langerado cancelled, ticket sales were too slow

February 3rd, 2009 by Leilani Polk in News

Yesterday, I heard rumors that Langerado was in trouble due to slow ticket sales. Today, 14 hours after Bonnaroo revealed its monster schedule with Phish, NIN and Springsteen as headliners, I received the official nail-in-the-coffin confirmation. Here’s the release:

LANGERADO 2009 CANCELLED

Today, the 2009 Langerado Music Festival is cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales. The 7th annual event was slated to happen March 6-8 at their new home in downtown Miami’s Bicentennial Park.

Langerado’s independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, “Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it’s become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time.”

All tickets purchased will be refunded. Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days. Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees. Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion. Well if you compare the lineup to last years this one sucked bad. Come on. We went from REM and the Beastie Boys to Modest Mouse and Snoop Dogg. No offense Snoop.

there are 3 reasons this failed. first, it was the same weekend as the reunion shows, which had a very strong overlap in fan base.

second, the location, while might be nice, is in a piss poor part of town with hotels (expensive at that) the only option for a close to the 3 day venue stay.

finally, all the late nights cost extra (which wasnt the case when it was at big cypress last year).

i am sorry to see it canceled, but i already had plans to be in hampton.

JJ, you didn’t add that the people who were probably trying to figure out whether or not to go to Langerado prolly decided that the ‘roo, with its better lineup, was a better choice.

If they had an incling that sales would be slugglish based on the number of festivals that didn’t sell out last year I would think they would have choosen a venue that allowed the festival goers to camp rather then stay in pricey Miami Hotels… The venue was lame and didn’t lend itself to the same atomsphere as the previous years. That’s why this guy said screw it, I’ll go to Bonnaroo…

    lamerado.

The refund policy is fucked…give all my money back please

  9. Mr Mojo Risin Says:

These are all valid points. Camping festivals are better anyways, and YES the lineup for Bonnaroo is awesome and better. And there are still a few rounds of artist additions to go. See you at Roo

  10. Jessica Says:

Exactly, Brian. Not being able to camp made the decision for me…
