WEDNESDAY NIGHT – Soap, Pastimes Pub, Sarasota
Stepping into the spot, I’m greeted by the sound of balloons popping in syncopation with the bumpin’ electro mash-ups from DJ Jake Dubber (aka Shock to the System). First impresh: The tattooed are out in force tonight at this special Wednesday Soap.
I join my friends at the bar and order a Soap Shot (blue and foamy; no idea what’s in it but it is delicious), as well as a Yuengling (on special tonight for $1.50), and then sit back to admire the spazzes on the dance floor. By the time I finish my beer I am one of those spazzes, and enjoy rockin’ out to the last cuts in the DJ set, my fave being the “Milkshake”/”Lollipop” mix.
Event organizer John Lichtenstein and his moustache take the stage to introduce the next act, reggae group Hith, and adds, “Soap Shots are delicious and $3. Get fucked up! And take a cab.” I take the slow-down in the music as an opportunity to catch up with many of the local artists and musicians in the crowd tonight like Peter Stolp from Saint Sweetheart (6′4” and 153 pounds, I asked), tow head Erin Murphy from Maid Mosephine, and Brian of JesusChryslerSupercar, wearing a smashing bowler.
Following the smooth originals and covers from Hith, DJ Sugarpill kicks off his set with what sounds like a Super Mario version of Crime Mob’s “Knuck if you Buck.” More dancing/hilarity ensues until the high heels start to hurt and I head out into the cool evening air. If tonight is any indication, the next Soap party on Jan. 20 should be a blast. The Scenestress will see you there.

Soap this Tuesday Jan 2oth !!! MeteorEYES local make your ass shakesters are back.. We are releasing a few songs as well as coming back for the new year..
