See & Do - Music: Man Man April 30 2008

Sat., May 3

The four hirsute members of MAN MAN call Philadelphia and New York home, but their big beards, savage war paint and short shorts give the impression of post-apocalyptic Appalachia. As such, the spectacle of their Grizzly Adams-in-thrift-store-garb appearance adds disturbing depth to the group’s approach to musical traditions and experimentation. Man Man’s latest offering, Rabbit Habits, skews the junkyard clatter and clutter of busy instruments for a restrained take on songcraft. But “restrained” doesn’t mean the same thing it would when talking about anyone else. The gypsy-punk antics of Rabbit Habits are as deranged and beautiful as ever, and just as adventurous. Yeasayer opens the Sat., MAY 3, show. $12-$14. 9 p.m. Lenny’s Bar, 486 Decatur St. 404-577-7721. www.lennysbar.com.
